Restorative Medicine & BHRT

When your hormones optimally perform, you feel vibrant, exuberant, and sexy.

Bioidentical hormones restorative therapy (BHRT) not only corrects the symptoms of menopause, it also effectively protects against chronic and age-related disease, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, depression, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and more. Through supervised treatment, bioidentical hormone restorative therapy can make women feel healthier, and even look younger, than they have in years.

BHRT sits within the medical sub-specialty of Restorative Medicine. Its goal is to extend lifespan, and prolong youthspan and healthspan through early detection, prevention, treatment and reversal of age-related dysfunction, disorders and diseases, in both men and women. To understand BHRT you must also understand Restorative Medicine.

Restorative Medicine

Restorative medicine views and treats the body as an intricately connected organism, composed of an amazing hormonal team. Its goal is restore the body to optimal physiology. Its final destination is to make you well, to get to the root cause of your condition.

What is restorative medicine?

Restorative medicine is the ‘art of medicine’ its goal being to increase lifespan, as well as improve overall health, with the use of bioidentical hormones, and the highest quality vitamins, supplements and minerals, which are all interrelated. Its emphasis being on early detection, preventive strategies and lifestyle changes. This incorporates correcting hormonal imbalances bringing them to youthful or optimal levels, boosting the immune system, improving cardiovascular function, reducing stress, detoxifying the body, healing the GI tract and rebuilding brainpower.

The problem is hormonal loss as we age

As we age, our hormones decline naturally – hormonal decline is the ‘Major Ager’ and detonator to all the age-related diseases we see today, including the three major killers; cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and heart disease. Declining hormone levels have been associated with every chronic illness there is. It is important to recognise the symptoms (signs) of menopause and its related hormonal deficiencies (imbalances), and to correct these symptoms. When hormones are balanced, you regain homeostasis (balance), correct those life-destroying symptoms and in the long-term, avoid a host of age-related disease.

The Menopause Roadmap!

Menopause is made up of three transitions, or let’s call them stages.  Perimenopause Menopause Postmenopause (after menopause) All three have a name because all three

Restorative medicine treats the cause

Restorative medical experts across the globe believe that by correcting physiology, and therefore, restoring the body to optimal levels, with the use of bioidentical hormones, vitamins, supplements, and minerals, we can slow the ageing process and use this cutting edge medicine as a treatment for age-related diseases.

Restorative medicine’s goal is to achieve optimal health, through balancing hormones and correcting physiological errors, which go onto accomplish harmony within the body and its systems. By doing so, it treats the ‘cause’ rather than the ‘effect’ of the multiple symptoms we see in menopause and myriad of diseases we see in the ageing population.

Restorative medicine is individual

Restorative medicine is a very precise medicine that requires intricate blood tests. We are all different and therefore require different supplements in varying amounts. Once your blood tests are analysed, you will then be prescribed bioidentical hormones, supplements, vitamins, and minerals based on where your optimal levels should be. It is not a one-size-fits-all medicine!

Hormone restorative therapy for the menopause

Oestrogen(s) and progesterone levels decline drastically in perimenopause, which may result in symptoms such as hot flushes, weight gain, memory lapses and low concentration, night sweats, anxiety and mood swings – these being the commonest of symptoms.

Unfortunately, the majority of doctors still prescribe conventional hormone replacement therapy (HRT). However, and fortunately, there is much debate about how safe conventional HRT really is, most doctors now agree on the findings of the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study, which links conventional HRT to a higher risk of breast cancer, and heart disease.

Conventional HRT is synthesised (made) in a lab and is not well accepted by the body. It is a combo drug of horse oestrogens, which are derived from the urine of pregnant mares, and progestins, which are derived from natural progesterone, which is then chemically altered, so it can be patented. Synthetic hormones are not identical to the hormones we have in our body and create a very dangerous scenario. They are a one-size-fits-all synthetic hormone therapy. They are not a solution!

How do bioidentical hormones differ?

The major and greatest difference is that bioidentical hormones are an exact replica of the hormones found in our body and are very well accepted, meaning they work for us, not against us. They originate from plant extracts and are bioengineered (made) in a lab to become an exact copy of the human hormone. Bioidentical oestrogens, progesterone and all the other bioidentical hormones are safe, when prescribed at the correct physiological doses.

“I cannot stress this enough – synthetic and bioidenticals are not one and the same.”
Bioidentical hormones are not a pharmaceutical drug, they are a not a one-size-fits-all treatment. They are compounded in a pharmacy so they can be made-up to the exact prescribed dosage to the individual’s requirements.
